Lack of Education

Education about menstruation or women's health in general is lacking in many areas of the world, causing confusion over correct hygiene practices and leaving the space for myths to spread. Upon first getting their periods, many girls are terrified and confused because they do not know what is happening to their bodies. This fear and misunderstanding is a result of the girls' complete lack in knowledge of what a period even is.

Largely because of the taboos that surround menstruation, girls are not taught how their bodies work or even why they get their periods. It is a vicious cycle because this lack of education is also what allows these taboos to continue.

Not only does this lack of education cause fear and stigmas, it also leads to poor hygiene, as women have no idea how to properly care for their bodies. They have no one to turn to for advice or guidance, so many women develop odors from improper methods. These odors lead to social exclusion, which hurts women's confidence and restricts their daily lives.
