Limited Access to Facilities

Another issue that menstruating women face is limited access to facilities, such as toilets, simply because they do not exist where they live, attend school, or work. Many schools lack sufficient sanitization facilities such as running water, toilets, or waste disposal receptacles.

This absence of sanitization facilities keeps girls from attending school and women from attending work because they have no place to care for themselves or dispose of their used products.

Without proper facilities, women are also not able to wash themselves, decreasing their menstrual hygiene significantly. This is an economic challenge for many communities as well as a social one, as this lack of proper restrooms is often not considered a factor in this issue.
